Six French aid workers, 2 others killed by gunmen in Niger
August 10, 2020 - Six French aid workers were among the eight people killed in Niger by gunmen on motorcycles on Sunday, officials said.
The aid workers, a tour guide and a driver were attacked while on tour in a wildlife park, some miles away from Niamey, the Capital of Niger.
“They were intercepted and killed,” the governor of Tillaberi region, Tidjani Ibrahim Katiella said.
No group has claimed responsibility as yet.
Meanwhile, the French government has warned citizens against travelling to some parts of Niger where militant groups including Boko Haram operate.
The office of the French president confirmed that French nationals who worked for the ACTED relief organization were killed.
French President Emmanuel Macron has also spoken with the Nigerien President Mahamadou Issoufou.
The President of the Association of Koure Giraffe Reserve Guides, Kadri Abdou was also among those killed.
